Cabin Fever: Picture-Perfect Log Cabin Retreats To Inspire Your Future Travels

Though we can’t run away to these charming wood cabin retreats at the moment, we can use them as inspiration for future travels. Here’s a little visual escape to the great outdoors—no travel required.

San Luis - South Tyrol, Italy

Set in Italy’s mountainous South Tyrol region known for its fairytales forests and clear, cold lakes, San Luis’ collection of 42 wooden cabins and treehouses seem purpose-built for an escapist fantasy. With nothing to do except admire the Italian Alps and traverse the 40 acres of private woodland, this mountain retreat is all about wide-open spaces.

Las Lagunas - Flores, Guatemala

Hidden away in a tropical nature reserve and lagoon about an hour away from the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal, Las Lagunas is an eco-minded jungle hideaway with plenty of rustic charm. Private over-water wooden bungalows are built above coffee-colored lagoon waters and inspire plenty of rest of relaxation.

Nellim Wilderness Hotel - Nellim, Finland

Finnish Lapland’s Nellim is made up of individual rooms, spacious suites, cool bubbles and quaint log cabins. For the ultimate retreat, reserve Log Cabin Kasari (pictured above), with three bedrooms, a kitchenette, plus a spacious living/dining room with wood-burning fireplace.

Fairmont Le Château Montebello - Montebello Canada

Designed with red cedar logs, dark wooden shingles and stone chimneys, Fairmont Le Château Montebello is a country-chic Québecois hideout on the shores of the Outaouais River. With 210 well-dressed guest rooms plus a golf course, this log cabin hotel isn’t exactly quaint, but it certainly still is charming.

Leo Trippi Ferme de Moudon - Les Gets, France

Tucked away at the end of a sleepy lane just a short drive from the center of the Alpine village of Les Gets in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Ferme de Moudon is a deliciously private 300-year-old wooden chalet with four floors, five bedrooms plus a heated pool, fire pit and a sunken outdoor hot tub.

Sacromonte Landscape Hotel - El Edén, Uruguay

Designed by MAPA Architects, the high-spec Sacromonte Landscape Hotel is made up of several different styles of “shelters,” not to mention a vineyard and farm-to-table eatery. The log cabin-inspired Lake Shelter (pictured above) with private deck and inlaid pool, offers a cool and cozy respite for those in need of style and serenity.

Dunton Hot Springs - Dunton, Colorado

Buried away in a forested valley that seems passed over by time, Dunton Hot Springs is a former ghost town, which now serves as a rural boutique hotel. Made up of postcard-perfect cabins and clear, natural hot springs set against a mountain-strew backdrop, this collection of cabins shows off the Wild West of a bygone era.
